An Upper West Side purse-snatcher leaped into the Hudson River to escape cops early Monday — but was fished out of the drink by officers, authorities said.
The man had grabbed a purse from a woman on West 88th Street and Riverside Drive just before 1 a.m., according to police sources.
When spotted by cops responding to the robbery, he took off.
Two officers chased him on foot, prompting him to jump into the water in a hasty getaway attempt, police said.
The floundering man was drifting down the river until officers from the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit entered the water and pulled him out, cops said.
He was dragged out near the West 79th Street Boat Basin and taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for hypothermia observation.
The aquatic robber hadn’t yet been charged, according to cops
