The Bayelsa state government says it will employ expert coaches from outside the shores of the state and country to train it's athletes and ensure they compete favourably with their counterparts in other states, in thier quest for honors in various competitions.
Sports development commissioner, Perekiye Buruboyefe, who disclosed this during a courtesy call by the executives of the Bayelsa chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, in Yenagoa, said the move was in line with the state government's efforts to ensure its athletes are well prepared for the forthcoming National Sports Festival.
Congratulating the association on their successful elections, the Sports Commissioner, reiterated government's determination to completing all ongoing projects in the sub-sector.
Chairman, Bayelsa SWAN, Alambo Datonye,, in his earlier remarks stated that the purpose of the courtesy call was to familiarize the association with all stakeholders in the sector since after its election, adding that association would soon embark on some programs and workshops to enhance professionalism in sports reportage.
While calling on the ministry's support, Alambo stressed that as promoters of the sector, SWAN would collaborate with the ministry to achieve its desired goals.
In a related development, Director of Sports in the Bayelsa state sports council, Chief Patimidi Tukuru, congratulated SWAN on its successful elections, describing the new executive as notable personalities in the profession with exceptional characters.
The former Secretary to the Sports Council, expressed his readiness to work with SWAN in organising programs that would be beneficial to the sector, while urging them not to relent in educating the public about the activities of the various associations under the sports sector
