Kevin Owens Beats Seth Rollins At WWE Clash Of Champions (New Storylines)

WWE Clash of Champions featured Kevin Owens defeating Seth Rollins with the help of Chris Jericho and Roman Reigns defeating Rusev to win the US title as the highlights of what turned out to be a pretty underwhelming pay-per-view.

What needed to be a stellar show was a rather lackluster effort, one which came at a bad time for WWE because ratings for Monday Night Raw have been in a tailspin while SmackDown’s ratings tanked this week as well. Though WWE will undoubtedly pretend like TV ratings don’t matter, this is an alarming trend for a company that’s biggest source of revenue comes from its TV deals.

Something needs to be done to get WWE back on track with ratings that are trending in the right direction, and that probably didn’t happen at Clash of Champions.

On a show that
featured an overbooked main event, a disappointing Women’s match and some questionable finishes, WWE will have to hold out hope that fans will tune into Raw going forward. Will what transpired at Clash of Champions make them want to watch?

Let’s take a look by analyzing three potentially huge new storylines coming out of Clash of Champions.

Sheamus And Cesaro Form A Tag Team
The best of seven series between Sheamus and Cesaro ended in controversial fashion when the referees called off the final match, saying that neither man could continue.

What if the “championship” opportunity that Michael Cole has been talking about is a tag team title shot for the newly formed team of Sheamus and Cesaro? This would be a logical scenario given that neither Sheamus nor Cesaro technically won the series.

Plus, considering their lack of options in the midcard singles scene, it could actually be a fun storyline to see Sheamus and Cesaro realize that they are better together than they are apart. This would lead to them joining forces and challenging The New Day for the tag team titles, perhaps even eventually dethroning the champs at some point.

Roman Reigns Brings Back The US Title Open Challenge
Roman Reigns surprisingly defeated Rusev to win the United States Championship, effectively putting a midcard title on one of WWE’s top babyfaces.

It’s similar to what WWE did with John Cena last year, and that worked out incredibly well for “The Champ,” who was able to win over hardcore fans with his US Open Title Challenge that produced a plethora of fantastic matches. That’s why creative should consider

Reigns is still struggling mightily to win over the hardcore fan base, so maybe having him reinstate Cena’s weekly challenge could do for him what it did for Cena. Otherwise, this is just another example of WWE having Reigns look strong at a time when he probably should have lost to Rusev.

Chris Jericho Vs. Seth Rollins
Given that Chris Jericho played a big role in his best friend Kevin Owens retaining the Universal Championship at Clash of champions, it only makes sense that Seth Rollins would want revenge on Jericho.

Jericho vs. Rollins will undoubtedly happen at some point soon. The question is: When will that match take place? Better yet, will it be a full-fledged feud or simply part of Owens vs. Rollins?

We’ll find out those specifics over time, but regardless, you can pencil in Rollins vs. Jericho, likely with Y2J as an obstacle that Rollins will have to overcome on his quest to win the Universal title.
